Taking Care of Your Smile
How You Can Help Yourself Keep Your Teeth
- Brush your teeth twice daily with a fluoridated toothpaste. Soft bristle tooth brushes are the best.
- Floss your teeth daily.
- Limit the amount and times of sugar you eat or drink. Every time you intake sugar into your mouth it damages your teeth and can cause cavities.
- Try to visit the dentist twice a year to have your teeth cleaned and examined.

Taking Care of Your Baby’s Teeth
- Do Not put your baby to bed with a bottle of milk or juice – -only water!
- Use a soft wet cloth to wipe off baby’s new teeth every day – no toothpaste.
- Babies start getting teeth around 6 months and should have all baby teeth in around 2 years old.
- Visit the dentist at age one to check teeth.
- Baby teeth are very important – they hold space for permanent teeth until the child is 12-13 years old.
- Baby teeth can get cavities quickly because they are so small. They need to be kept healthy to keep pain and infection from happening.
